Hi!

Before my departure I will do a small research to get to know the country a bit better.

South Africa is the most southern country of the continental Africa. It's neighbours are Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Swaziland. South Africa is surrounded by the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean. South Africa has more than 50 million inhabitants and about 75% of the inhabitants are Christian.

The area we are mostly going to visit is the province Western Cape. This province is located in the south west of Africa. The capital of the Western Cape is Cape Town. The Table Mountain is a mountain near Cape Town. This mountain offers a view on Cape Town and surroundings. When we will visit South Africa, it's almost sure we will visit the Table Mountain and I am really excited because I think it will be beautiful.
Robbeneiland is the famous island located in front of the coast of South Africa, near Cape Town. Robbeneiland is known for it's past, when criminals were kept on the island. Nelson Mandela was a famous 'anit-apartheidstrijder' and had a 18-years long prisonship on Robbeneiland. In 1996, Robbeneiland was closed and tourists can now visit Robbeneiland.

During our journey, we will stay in the village Genadendal. (In English Valley of Grace, beautiful name :) Genadendal is located in the Western Cape as well and it takes about a 90 minutes drive to reach Cape Town. It has about 3500 inhabitants. The school we are going to visit (Emiel Weder), is located in Genadendal and our accomodation were we will sleep is in Genadendal too. The Emiel Weder school faces some real problems like a lack of teachers, abuses and teenage pregnancies. I think this is tough to see but I hope we can be a helping hand.

This was a small introduction on the country South Africa itself and it makes me even more curious. I searched for many photos and I think it will be great to experience South Africa in real life.

Love,
Luca
